All you Need to Know about Vehicle Wraps

by | Jan 18, 2022

Wrapping your company vehicles with your business branding is one of the smartest marketing decisions you’ll ever make!  Not only are they eye-catching, but they’ll be promoting your business everywhere they go!  They offer a great return on investment over their life cycle and sets your business apart from competitors.

What is a Vehicle Wrap?

Vehicle wraps is the term given to a large vinyl graphic that’s applied to a vehicle, directly over its original paintwork.  The reason they’re used is to promote businesses and services in the main.

They’re usually full-colour prints that can either cover the total vehicle or part of it, depending on the design and budget available.

What’s involved in the process?

If you’re considering having your company vehicle wrapped, then the first port of call is to find a specialist sign making company that offers this service.  There are 4 stages of the process

  1. The consultation phase

This is where you’ll meet with the service providers and discuss your ideas and budget for the process.  The design should include your logo, brand message and contact information at the very least.  Your sign making company will be able to guide you in terms of design and colours.

  1. The design phase

This is where, having communicated your ideas to your sign-maker, they’ll come up with a few designs for you to mull over, tweak and eventually sign off for approval.

  1. The production phase

When your design is approved, the vinyl graphic will then be produced.  The dimensions and specifications of the vehicle will be taken and the graphics will be produced to fit it perfectly.

  1. The installation phase

This is when the graphic is ‘wrapped’ around the vehicle.  Depending on the size of the vehicle and the graphic itself, it could take somewhere between 2 and 7 days to complete this phase.

How long does a vehicle wrap last?

Usually, a vehicle wrap will last in good condition for about 3-5 years.  Some areas may start to peel and lift a little, but a quick trip to your supplier and they’ll be able to make it good again.  Bear in mind that after 5 years, you’re probably ready to change or modernise your marketing collateral anyway!

Does a vehicle wrap damage the original paintwork?

The answer to this is usually no, but it really depends on the condition of the paintwork in the first place.  If the paintwork is in reasonably good condition, with no rust spots etc, then there’s not usually a problem with the vinyl adhesive affecting the original paintwork.

Removal of the vinyl is relatively straight forward too!  It should come off easily in most cases, but sometimes, depending on the amount of time it’s been in-situ, it could be a little stubborn to shift!

How do I keep the graphics in good condition?

We would recommend handwashing your vehicle rather than putting it through a car wash because you can take a bit more care and will be able to see if there’s any damage or lifting of the vinyl.
